week thirty-three

February 28, 2011

I haven’t worn any other earrings since coming back from Thailand. My heart is theirs. It was great news this week when Lotus arrived at BLES after a smooth rescue operation and I can’t wait to meet her next time I visit.

week thirty-three (good things).

. crafting with friends at Spins & Needles
. a great time moving offices
. watching The Millenium trilogy movies
. an early evening skate on the canal
. possibilities that are awaiting me
. beautiful Lotus arriving safely at Boon Lott’s Elephant Sanctuary

week thirty-two

February 21, 2011

It was a freak weather incident, temperatures rose to 10+ degrees on Friday and mid-afternoon I found myself sitting on my balcony reading a book. Oh how I long fom spring. A weight seemed to fall off as the sun hit my face and I took deep breaths of spring air. The next day it was back to -20, Alas. The long weekend has been a treasure after a long week at work. I found myself a new little writing project to work on, read two books and went on a fondue hike with old and new friends.

good things (week thirty-two)

. buying a pair of new jeans, and they are so comfortable
. turning of the computer and reading some lovely books
. the smell of spring
. a lovely hike in the snow to the cabin and fondue
. watching my friend Karen sing at open mic night
. remembering so many good memories

week thirty-one

February 13, 2011

On Friday it was a day of blue skies and sunshine. I decided to strap on my skates and spend some time on the canal. Not wanting to go back inside, I walked to Dow’s Lake and strolled through the quiet snowy landscape, finally skating back on the canal to go home. It was a good day. Unfortunately the camera’s batteries drained quickly in the cold and my choices for this weeks photo were between a feet in the snow picture, or this. My hair won. Except more winter pictures though, I will be dancing in the snow again soon.

good things (week thirty-one)

. strapping on the skates and gliding on the canal
. beautiful quiet at Dow’s Lake except chatting birds
. wonderful updates from my parents in Asia
. great CPAWS meeting at my favorite sushi restaurant
. being asked to sign Tails & Tales
. wondering the canal with Melanie and looking for stylish skaters
. meeting Christa for lunch on her birthday, catching up on many adventures

After the fireworks

February 8, 2011

Fireworks make you think of new beginnings. In the cold harsh light of winter Ottawa seems hard and unwelcoming. And you wonder if it was ever any different, though it felt friendlier in the heat of the summer, the colours of the fall. New beginnings. You wonder where they will lead, when and where to begin again. And if the answers will come, or if you will sit and stare and wonder for many days to come. A sign might be just around the corner.

On another note, Boon Lott’s Elephant Sanctuary is in the process of rescuing another elephant, but need help with costs for the transport and the long trip to the sanctuary for Beautiful Lotus – that’s her name – who has never been in a forest or has learned to graze. Or felt what it was like to be a true elephant. Please donate whatever you can here. (please note that donations are in Thai Baht, the rate is around 30 baht to 1 canadian dollar)
